The Village
Canterano stands on a rocky spur of the Ruffi mountains, known by the inhabitants with the name of Morritana. The origins of the village are very ancient, as evidenced by the archaeological findings and the polygonal walls. For a long time under the dominion of the abbey of Subiaco, it became a free commune with the annexation to the Kingdom of Italy. To visit the remains of the Cyclopean walls, discovered in 1856 near the locality called "chiostra" not far from the current cemetery, a tangible sign of the ancient origins of the village. In the quaint old town there are some churches and from here you can make beautiful walks to discover the uncontaminated nature of the nearby mountains.
